June Style, Beauty, and Entertainment Favorites
/Welcome to my monthly favorite recommendations, where I will tell you about products and other things I've been loving from the previous month. I don't think I will do them at the end of every month, probably more like every other, but their main goal will be to give you guys some reviews of products I've been using and loving. I am partnering with Jord Watches on this post, but as always, all opinions and views are my own. So without further ado, let's get into my June favorites!
Style: Jord Watch
I will be the first to admit that in the past, I have not really been a watch person, I just have never found one that I really liked and that went with my style. But recently they have been making a huge come back in the fashion industry and I keep seeing more and more people wearing them again. I've been wanting to purchase a nice watch for quite some time now but wanted to make sure it really fit my style and would match a majority of my outfits. When I discovered Jord Watches, I found a ton of styles that I loved and especially liked the fact that they were made of wood. I just love how the wood looks, and the different colors and faces they have available. Recently I have been loving rose gold jewelry, and so I was instantly drawn to the Walnut & Vintage Rose watch, which is what I'm wearing in the images above.
Another thing I loved about getting my watch from Jord was their packaging. As a graphic designer, I always appreciate great packaging and presentation when it comes to products, and was very impressed with Jord's when my watch came. It was presented in a beautifully embossed wooden case which also contained a compartment to put the cleaning supplies that come with your watch in. The case was also packaged and shipped super well, so my watch came in perfect condition, and very quickly after I ordered it. Overall I loved my experience with Jord, and would highly recommend them if you are looking for a good quality watch from a company with great service.
You can buy this exact style of watch on Jord's website by clicking here, or click here to see the other styles of wooden watches they have! The contest ends on August 26 at 11:59 pm, and I will be announcing the winner on my Instagram (@kellyohara8)!
Hair: Wet Brush
I have had quite a long struggle with keeping my hair healthy. I was a competitive swimmer for over 10 years when I was younger, and it really took a toll on my hair. During this time, my hair would always be full of knots, and hard to brush through. Even hairdressers would notice it was hard for them to get a brush through my hair, despite all of the things I tried to get the chlorine out of it. Once I stopped swimming in college, my hair did start to slowly get healthy again, and I wanted to make sure to keep it that way. One of the biggest tips my hairdresser gave me was to be careful of how I handle my wet hair. For years I would use a normal brush when I got out of the shower because using a comb just wouldn't cut it with the amount of knots the chlorine put in my hair. But using a normal brush on wet hair is one of the worst things you can do for it because it breaks and damages it. So I wanted to find a good solution for being able to control my hair when it was wet.
Here is where the Wet Brush comes in. My younger sister Jenna is also a swimmer, and a girl on her team recommended this brush to her, and both of us have been using it ever since. I'm not exaggerating when I say, it makes brushing my hair a breeze whether it is wet or dry. And I truly feel like when I use it on my wet hair, that it is not damaging it, and is helping me to keep it healthy. They are also very inexpensive, come in a variety of colors and styles, and are very easy to find at most stores. I have had mine for about four years now, and it still works great.
You can buy it here on the Wet Brush website here, but it also available at most stores that sell hair products.
Beauty: Sephora Brand Concealer
So if you read my last post about my summer makeup routine, you would have seen that I don't like using a ton of heavy makeup on my face. In fact, I don't even own foundation, I only use concealer and powder. Mainly I use the concealer to cover the bags under my eyes, and blemishes. When I first started using makeup I would just buy cheap drugstore concealer, and it always seemed to make me break out more and always made my face feel dry. Eventually, I decided to try the brand name concealer from Sephora which my friend had recommended to me, to see if it worked for my skin any better. And honestly, it made a world of difference. Not only does my skin feel so much better when I wear this concealer, but it also just blends so well with my skin, and looks seamless. It also comes in so many different shades for all types of skin colors and lasts for a long time. One tube usually lasts me about 6 months. And honestly, while it is a little more expensive than a drugstore brand, it is not by much, and it is worth the extra cash.
You can check out all the different shades of this awesome concealer on Sephora's website by clicking here.
Movie: Deadpool 2
I'll be the first to admit I wasn't expecting a whole lot from the first Deadpool. But my brother Sam assured me I would like it, and so I went to see it with him when it was still in theaters, and let me just say that it was so much more than I expected. It is such a refreshing take on the superhero genre, and I loved the humor and action sequences. So when the sequel was announced I was excited but also skeptical if it could live up to how much I loved the first one. But I'm happy to report that the sequel may have even been better than the original. This one had more action, a faster and quick-paced plot, and so many shocking moments. Ryan Reynolds clearly loves this role so much, and you can tell that this is a true passion project for him.
This movie will be available on DVD and On Demand August 7.
TV Show: Lost
Every summer for the past few summers I have tried to pick an older show that has completed its run which I haven't seen before and binge it over the course of the summer. This summer, however, I chose to revisit a show which I never got the chance to finish. I began watching Lost when it first premiered with my mom and watched up until the fifth season with her. After that I missed quite a few episodes, and this was before DVR or streaming, so there was really no way to go back and watch what I had missed. So I never got the chance to finish the show, but luckily the ending somehow has not been spoiled for me yet. So when I saw the show was on Hulu, I decided to not continue to test that luck, and just do a complete rewatch and finally finish it. And quite honestly, I'm so glad I waited this long to watch the show in its entirety. I definitely appreciate it more after studying film in college and getting to work in the industry for a few years now, and I now fully understand why it is regarded as one of the best shows television has had to offer.
If you haven't heard of the show before the story centers around a group of people who survive a plane crash onto a strange island in the middle of nowhere. Once they have figured out they most likely will not be found, they must figure out not only how to survive, but how exactly they fit into the mysteries surrounding this strange island. The show uses flashback and flashforwards as a huge story component, both as a way to tease what is to come and to give background on the characters. It is so well done, and I have yet to see another show that handles time travel as well as this one. If you haven't seen it yet, I highly encourage you to check it out, even if you don't think it is your type of show, because I promise you, it has themes that anyone can relate to! And if you would like to hear more about my thoughts on this amazing show, keep an eye out for a future Binge Worthy post on the topic!
You can watch the entire show on Hulu or purchase it on DVD.
So there you have it, some of the things that I was loving this past month. Let me know if you end up trying any of these products or entertainment below, and how they work for you. And, as always, give this post a like if you want to see more content like it!
