Five Podcasts I'm Currently Loving
/First of all, I would like to say that I am sorry for the lack of posts in recent months. I have been getting very much into digital drawing, (which I will be writing some posts on in the near future!), and so the blog unfortunately suffered while I was figuring out that new hobby. But I will now be trying to post more frequently again, starting with this post about some of my current podcast favorites. In the past year or so I have been really getting into listening a number of them. It started out being on long car rides when I lived in LA, and has continued now on my subway commute to work. I am always looking for new podcasts on various subjects to listen to, so I thought it would be fun to share with you all ones I have recently been loving in case any of you are looking for a new one to start as well! So with out further ado let’s jump on into it.
1. Directionally Challenged
If you have been around this blog at all, you will know that The Vampire Diaries is one of my favorite TV shows. So when I found out that two of its stars, Candice King and Kayla Ewell, were making a podcast together I was so excited. And no, it is not a podcast just for TVD fans, in fact it is one I think anyone can relate to and appreciate. The main idea behind the podcast is that these two women, both married, in their thirties, and fresh off of a hit TV show, still feel like they don’t have it all quite figured out. So each week they feature a new guest to discuss a range of topics from anxiety, to grief, to motherhood, to sex and more. It is a great podcast to listen to when you want to be inspired, gain a new perspective on a topic, or just hear relatable stories.
2. The Bechdel Cast
This might honestly be my favorite podcast at the moment. Hosted by Los Angeles-based comedians Caitlin Durante and Jamie Loftus, each episode examines a different popular movie and how it portrays women and other minorities using what is known as The Bechdel Test (you can click here to read my post about what that is). What I love about it is that it is able to discuss important topics, while also being hilarious and not too preachy or critical. Through this podcast I have learned so much not just about representation, but film in general, and it is delivered in such a fun and fresh way. I highly recommend this podcast to anyone who loves film, and wants to revisit their favorite movies with a new perspective.
3. The Influencer Podcast
If you are interested in starting your own business, YouTube channel, Instagram Influencer account, blog, or anything social media related, this is the podcast for you. Hosted by social media expert Julie Solomon, each episode features a guest who is extremely well known in the business world, and gives you tips and tricks on how to build your own following, and grow your business through social media.
4. Listen Up A-Holes
I discovered Lani Diane Rich a while ago through her Buffy The Vampire Slayer podcast, and fell in love with her ability to analyze and discuss stories. As a best selling author and television writing professor, she definitely knows her stuff when it comes to TV and film writing. So when she came out with a new podcast that looks at the complete Marvel Cinematic Universe, I knew it was going to be good. She hosts the show with super hero scholar Joshua Unruh, and between the two of them you can bet they have a lot to discuss about this record breaking franchise. Such a good listen if you are a Marvel fan, or just want to learn more about film in general.
5. The Bancroft Brothers Animation Podcast
Ever since getting more into the animation world with my new drawing Instagram account (@kellyoharadesign), I have been loving listening to interviews with the many talented artists out there. And this is one of my absolute favorites. Hosted by twin brothers Tom and Tony Bancroft, (both of whom were artists at Disney Animation), the show features a variety of discussions and guests involved in the world of illustration. Such an inspiring and educational listen!
And now I am interested to hear what you guys are listening to! If you have some good podcasts that you have been loving recently, please leave your recommendations in the comments below. And as always if you enjoyed this post and would like to see more like it, please give it a like.
